Pizza Down Under: What Makes a Good Pizza and How Australian’s are Doing it Right.

Italy has long been renowned for its delicious cuisine, the pasta, the coffee, the beer, it is all to die for. If it is not fashion, it is food, and the Italians are most certainly doing both well. Perhaps the most famous dish to come from Italy is the pizza. Known around the world, this family favorite is one of the most delicious, most satisfying meals you can have. The best thing about pizza is that it can be eaten in cold or hot weather. It has been recreated all around the world, but nowhere quite does it like Italian pizza makers. Maybe it is the ingredients, maybe it is the technique, it is hard to say, however, one thing can be said for sure, pizza makers in Australian have been coming close. This article is about pizza in Australia.

To begin, it is worthwhile looking at the history of the pizza. Originally a working-class meal, the pizza provided an easy-to-prepare way of eating. The famous Margarita pizza was created to honor the Italian Queen, Queen Margarita, and the ingredients constitute an Italian flag. The tomato sauce is red, the margarita cheese is white, and the basil is green. Whether or not this legend is founded in fact, it certainly is a great story and it gives Italians a certain degree of bragging rights.

Australian Pizza

While pizza is not something that you would associate with Australia, there has been recent surges in its popularity among the population. A vast amount of pizza shops has been sprouting up all over the land, from the far-flung realms of the outback to the innermost parts of the cities. We have caught wind that if you are looking for the creme de la crème, the best pizza is in Geelong. The pizza shops in Australia are not your standard takeout shops, they are specialist pizza parlors with high temperature pizza ovens. The Aussie pizza shops get their inspiration and secret cooking techniques from Italy, with many of the owners having spent time in Italy. This has led to a great increase in the standard of Australian pizza. Who knows what cuisine will become popular in the Land Down Under next?

Australian pizza is on the rise. Italy still undoubtedly has the bragging rights for the best slice; however, the tides may turn in the future as different countries start to put their own unique signature spin on the famous dish.
