Best Benefits to Eating Organic Whole Foods

The organic food market is flourishing, and it’s projected to get even bigger shortly for various reasons. One of the biggest reasons it’s expected to grow so much is that people are starting to realise the benefits of eating organic. In fact, according to a study conducted back in 2016, most people who bought organic groceries did so for health reasons rather than environmental ones.

What exactly are the advantages of organic food in terms of health? The answer varies according to who you ask and whose research you refer to. But if you decide to buy organic goods, you’ll likely benefit from the following scientifically proven advantages.

Contain Healthy Fats in Larger Amounts

Organic meat and milk have around 50% more omega-3 fatty acids, a form of good unsaturated fat, than conventionally manufactured goods, according to 2016 research published in the British Journal of Nutrition. Additionally, organic milk contained less saturated fat than non-organic milk in the research.

According to the study’s authors, these variations might be explained by the way the cattle is raised, which includes a grass-fed diet and increased time spent outside. They believe that moving from conventional to organic food will increase consumers’ omega-3 consumption while consuming fewer calories and saturated fat.

Doesn’t Use Synthetic Hormones or Antibiotics

Antibiotics can be given to conventional livestock to protect them from sickness, allowing farmers to rear animals in crowded or unclean environments. Furthermore, except for poultry, conventionally bred animals can be treated with synthetic growth hormones to increase their weight or milk production. Organic wholefood products in Central Coast don’t contain any traces of antibiotics or synthetic hormones.

The issue is these hormones and antibiotics have a way of making their way into the people who consume them, although it’s only in trace amounts. It’s believed that people who consume meat from conventionally raised livestock become resistant to various antibiotics because of the trace amounts they are consuming. It’s also believed that the synthetic hormones used in livestock increase a person’s cancer risk. Organic dairy and meat products cannot contain anything synthetic, including hormones.

More Antioxidants

Some research suggests that organic foods contain higher levels of antioxidants compared to conventionally grown ones. One case listed in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry studied organically grown red onions compared to conventionally grown ones for six years. What researchers discovered was the organic ones contained 20% more antioxidants than the conventional ones. However, most experts agree more studies need to be done to determine if organic foods are more nutritious than conventionally grown ones.
